Live A Kick Butt Life Of Intention

I honestly believe that the easiest way for us to kick butt in life is to show up and be present in every area of it. I learned this lesson a long time ago and it has served me well.

An analogy that my previous supervisor once told me is that if you want a raise in your job, you’re going to do everything in your power to show your boss that you are perfectly qualified and that you deserve that raise.

You will show up to work rain or shine, sleet or snow. Even if you’re feeling absolutely horrible, you’re going to pop a few Tylenol and catch the bus there.

It might sound like a no-brainer because we have to go to work and pay our bills. Right? But what about other areas of our life?

Being successful really doesn’t have anything to do with our talents or skills. If you want to live a life of intention then you need to learn how to do what is necessary consistently regardless of your feelings.

When it really matters, you need to stand up and be counted.

Resentment is such an ugly word, don’t you think? But do you know what’s even uglier? A beautiful young women walking around every single day carrying all the resentment from her past hurts.

You wanna know how I know that? Because I used to be that girl! I had an ex hurt me so bad I thought I could never forgive him, and for years, I didn’t. Boy did it hold me back from kicking butt in life and really embracing the destiny I was meant to have.

Forgiveness is the absolute, most powerful thing you can do for yourself and for your life. It means that you are strong enough to accept that, although someone hurt you, holding on to that hurt will only keep you from becoming the best version of yourself.

So gather all the hurt, pain and unforgiveness and get rid of them. Grab the largest garbage bag you can find, stuff them all inside and burn it. Don’t even leave it on the sidewalk so you can have access to it ever again.

Good old communication. As I prepare for my trip to Singapore, I can give you a great example for the books. Have you ever travelled to a foreign country and you had no ability to speak the language? You probably have or will at some point (so you won’t miss out on the fun).

Anyway, whenever this happens, communication is extremely difficult and can even seem impossible. Even when we speak the same language, more often than not, we still fail to properly communicate with each other.

Our listening skills are seriously lacking and we’re so focused on getting our own point across that we aren’t even vaguely interested in what the other person has to say.

Communication skills are especially important when you go to job interviews. Recruiters, these days, tend to ask questions specifically designed to test your ability to properly express yourself and your opinions without coming across as obnoxious.

If you’re asked “Why did you leave your last job?” or “Where do you see yourself in five years?” by a prospective employer, how would you respond? Are you able to give concise answers without bashing a third-party?

How can you be sure that the person you’re speaking to actually understands what you’re saying?

Wanting to be accepted is one of our deepest desires as human beings. This need can cause us to obsess over our appearance, our job and other things in our life that don’t seem to be perfect enough for people to love.

But you know what? The truth is that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and not everyone is going to like you. To live a kick butt life of intention you need to stop caring what people think of you.

Sit down in front of your mirror and ask yourself these questions:

  • Do I like who I am?
  • Am I proud of my accomplishments?
  • At the end of the day, whose opinions truly matter?

At the end of the day, you only have one life to live and the only person whose approval you need to be happy is your own.

I came across a term the other day called “wantrepreneur.” Can you guess what it means? Of course, you can. An entrepreneur sets goals, has a vision and works their butt off to achieve that vision.

A wantrepreneur, on the other hand, keeps waiting until the perfect opportunity comes their way.

Which one are you? Intentional living means that you go out there and make things happen. No-one is going to walk up to you with a cheque for a million dollars and a TV crew (unless you’re a Kardashian, oh my!).

Think of life like this. Imagine that you are at home starving and you really need to get some food. The thing is you imagine the food, you desire the food but you never actually go to the supermarket and buy it. You’ll probably end up starving to death.

Not a pretty though. I know!

When you wake each morning, ensure you wake up with intention. Every moment in your life is important and you need to make them all count.

A great way to do this is to create daily goals that you will accomplish and focus on completing those goals that day.
