10 Daily Habits Of A Worry Free Person

Many say that worrying is an important part of daily life. They compare it to eating or breathing. People have also told me that it is inherently impossible not to worry. Well, after starting my non-worry journey over a year ago, I can honestly say that it is VERY possible. To show you how, here are my 10 daily habits of a worry-free person to help YOU be worry free too.

1. They Are Always Positive

Positivity is always the best policy for a worry free person. When you are constantly negative, and forever seeing the bad side of the situation, you increase the number of things that you have to worry about.

From experience, when I see things in a better light, I have no need to be concerned about the outcomes because I am certain that something good will happen in the end.


2. They See The Solution

This was a very big eye-opener for me. When I was younger, I always dwelled on the problem. “My rent is due, but I have no money,” or “Oh no. How will I ever afford to attend university?” It always seemed like there was some random problem popping up.

A good friend of mine told me that as a Christian I shouldn’t be focused on the problem, because I serve a God who is bigger than any problem. He was right.

If we focus on the solution, then we spend our time trying to figure out what to do versus wasting time worrying about what we can’t. A wise man once said, “Focus on the things you can do. Don’t worry about the things you can’t.”


3. They Ask For Help

A worrier will forever try to do things on their own. Whenever a problem arises, they might not want others to pry or are afraid of judgement, and thus keep it to themselves. Doing so will only increase the worry and the stress you endure. So why bother?

When you ask for help from someone you trust, you take a bit of the weight off of your shoulders and balance it. Worry-free people are not afraid to confide in others when necessary, and ask for advice in a difficult situation.

It is much better to ask than to keep things bottled up.


4. They Pray

The Bible tells us that the prayer of a righteous man is a powerful thing. I also believe that anyone can pray if they truly believe in what they are saying. When I pray, I give my burdens to the Lord. I lay them at His feet and leave them there.

In that way, I put the problem on God and trust that He will help me work things out, or provide me with the means to do so. After having done this multiple times, I see no reason to worry about anything.

I encourage you to give all your worries to God and see how much lighter you feel afterwards.


5. They Are Very Decisive

Decisions can be a super daunting task. What if you get things wrong? Are there any repercussions from your actions? The questions are endless. A worry-free person is very decisive and sticks to the decisions that have been made.

There is no point in wavering when a decision comes up. This only serves to extend the life of the problem or issue affecting you which is unnecessary. Whenever this situation arises, try to follow your instincts and make a decision.

Your instincts are usually never wrong, and it also beats worrying about the end result of said decision.

If something happens afterwards, deal with it then. For now, stop worrying.

I learned this one from a good friend of mine. Whenever he had a problem or some grave situation, he always strived to resolve the issues promptly.

He told me that by doing so he cut the life of the negative situation in half and thus cut the worrying time down to non-existent.

I have since taken his advice and do the same. As soon as something comes up, I think about solutions, then try to work as quickly as I can to solve the problem.

It might not always be easy going, but the important thing is that, instead of worrying, you are working your way to your happy ending.


7. They Take Time To Breathe

Social media can cause a lot of stress and worry. “Everyone looks so happy.” “Why are they so popular and so rich?” “Where is my version of Channing Tatum when I need him?”

Spending too much time on social media can cause you to start comparing your life to the lives of others. When you start doing this, you risk worrying about attaining what you see. Truth is you can’t.

Taking time away from social media is a great thing. It gives you time to yourself. There is no more outside noise. It’s just you and you. Worry free people do this daily.

It could be 30 mins, an hour or two. Just take some time to get away from the madness and just enjoy your peace and solitude.


8. They Are Slow To React

“Why shouldn’t I just curse someone out when they cross the line?” “When can I yell at my boss?” We are to be slow to react to situations. Why?

When you take the time to think about your actions, you have the time to weigh the pros and cons. For every action, there is an equal opposite reaction.

Take the time to think: “If I yell at my boss, will I get fired? If I get fired then I won’t have a job, right?” The best thing to do would be to calmly speak to him or her.

This way there is no negativity on your part. Better yet, there is no worrying after the fact.


9. They Don’t Dwell On Simple Matters

Living in Japan as a black woman can be really great but it can also be super annoying sometimes. On any given to trip into the city I tend to get the usual microaggressions.

Some include people staring with piercing eyes, people not sitting beside me in a full bus, etc. These microaggressions can cause worry, not in the sense of “Oh my. What will I do?” but in the sense of “Will, I ever fit in? Will I make friends?” etc.

I encourage you to not dwell on such simple things. If you want to get unto the worry-free road, then don’t spend your time concerned about what others think about you. It’s pointless.

My mom always told me that what people say or think ain’t none of yours (your business). I agree. Don’t worry about them. In fact, don’t worry about all. 🙂


10. They Go To Bed Happy

After going through an entire day, practising all of the above, is there any question that worry free people go to bed happy? Before you go to end ensure that you even do one of the following and I guarantee that you will have a good night of worry free sleep.

  • If someone has upset you, try to resolve issues immediately
  • Make a list of everything that worries you and burn it
  • Pray
  • Get into some comfy pyjamas
  • Think happy thoughts
  • Sleep

    This is a great list! I’d also add, though, that sometimes it really IS okay to simply feel what we feel and sometimes what we feel is less than worry-free, as long as we don’t dwell on those feelings at length and make them our primary focus. ❤

    I like the 10 daily habits that you came up with. They are definitely easier said than done though, but I guess that’s part of the journey. I especially liked number 8 which is that They Are Slow To React. I think being slow to react is somewhat similar to developing more emotional intelligence and self-control. Do you have any tips about how to be more decisive? For me, being endlessly indecisive definitely hurts me, but I’m not sure how to be more decisive.

      Hi Justin. Yes these habits definitely take time and effort. I still remind myself consistently so that I don’t backtrack. As for decision making I can suggest the following :
      Give yourself no more than a day to decide big decisions and a few hours for small ones. During that time you can make a mental or physical list of the major pros and construction of your decision. Following your heart is also key. Go with the choice that instantly feels right and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. They make us stronger. Finally, once you make your decision stick to it.

    Sometimes when we are worried, we try to find ways of fixing our problems too fast, in which we mostly opt for the wrong ways. We have to thus do only what we can while leaving the rest to the Almighty if we can’t get help from others at the moment.     I always used to laugh at my Mum as a child as she was such a worrier – I nicknamed her after someone who worried a lot in Sesame Street, these day I am probably worse than she ever was. I must work on it.

    I find it really hard not to worry about day to day things. I have gotten passed the stage of caring or worrying about what people think of me. This is a good remimder that worry starts within and that changing your thought processes can have great results in achieving a worry free attitude! I learned about this in psychology, if you think negative you will get negative results they are called negative automative thoughts. The trick is to intercept the thought and look at it from a more positive perspective! Great post, I will definitely be practicing these more often!
